EUROGENDFOR participates in a roundtable in Brussels on civil – military coordination in crisis contexts

On March 1st, 2012, EUROGENDFOR Representatives participated in a roundtable on “The Police, Humanitarians and the Protection of Civilians: Coordinating ‘Civilian’ Contributions”, held in Brussels, at the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Headquarters.

The roundtable was the second event in a two-year research and public affairs project led by the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) at the Overseas Development Institute which explores new developments in the relationship between international military and security actors and the international humanitarian community with a view to facilitating more effective and principled coordination in crisis contexts.

The EUROGENDFOR representative made a presentation on the experience of the EUROGENDFOR in the first session of the day on “The Evolving Role of International Police in Protecting Civilians”. The presentation covered what mandates EUROGENDFOR have been deployed under, the roles EUROGENDFOR deployments have had in protecting civilians in different contexts, and how EUROGENDFOR deployments may have engaged with humanitarian actors in this regard.
