
MINUSMA, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, was lauched in the aftermath of the SC Resolution 2100 (25 APR 2013) to support political processes in Mali and carry out a number of security-related tasks.
As a consequence of the Resolution 2164 (25 JUN 2014), the Mission has to focus on; ensuring security, stabilization and protection of civilians, the rebuilding of the security sector, and the promotion and protection of human rights
In September 2016, EGF, along with the UN Police Division, conducted a joint assessment to Mali, in coordination with MINUSMA Police, in order to strengthen the MINUSMA Transnational Organised Crime/ Counter-Terrorism (TOC/CT) Unit, whose name was later changed (August 2016) into “Serious and Organised Crime Support Unit” (SOC SU).
EGF provided SOC SU with a French speaking team based in Bamako and focused on anti-terrorism, supporting the new “Organised Crime Specialised Unit” and its “Special Investigations Brigade” (Brigade d’Investigations Spécialisées- BIS)
In January 2018, a pre-deployment training in favour of the EGF Team was conducted at the EGF PHQ in Vicenza, Italy. The Team is now full operational capable and their members are deployed in Bamako.
