Following an invitation by Libyan authorities, the Council of the European Union launched the EU Integrated Border Management Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM Libya) in May 2013 under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
EUBAM Libya supports the Libyan authorities in developing border management and security at the country’s land, sea and air borders. Key priority areas include policing, the fight against organized crime and counter-terrorism, border management, including the fight against smuggling and trafficking of human beings, customs, and their interrelation with the wider criminal justice chain. The mission’s revised mandate will run until 30 June 2020.
EUROGENDFOR has been contributing to this Mission since September 2016, covering relevant positions where gendarmerie fields of expertise are crucial, such as Head of Operations, Maritime Border Adviser and Migration Adviser.
