EUFOR RCA (2014 – 2015)

On 10 February 2014, the European Council established an EU military operation in the Central African Republic (EUFOR RCA), which lasted from march 2014 to march 2015. EUROGENDFOR contributed to this mission from beginning to end.

Within this operation, EUROGENDFOR was specifically tasked to play a key role in stabilizing a particularly volatile area of the capital, Bangui, by deploying a gendarmerie-type Integrated Police Unit, in order to reinforce the rule of law, to maintain public order, and to fight against impunity.

The whole EUROGENDFOR Permanent Headquarters (PHQ) focused their efforts on the mission from its very establishment, including the secondment of two PHQ Officers to the EUFOR RCA Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in Larissa (Greece) to participate in the EUFOR RCA mission planning process. In addition, two EUROGENDFOR Gendarmerie Advisors were detached to the EUFOR RCA OHQ in Larissa, and more than one hundred EUROGENDFOR Police Officers were deployed in Bangui, comprising public order and community policing platoons, as well as criminal investigation and intelligence cells, all of whom actively contributed to create a Safe and Secure Environment (SASE) in the endangered capital.
