EUFOR RCA

The EU military operation in the Central African Republic (EUFOR RCA), which took place from March 2014 to March 2015, aimed to provide temporary support to help create a safe and secure environment in the Bangui area, protect populations at risk, and enable the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Within this operation, EUROGENDFOR was tasked with playing a key role in stabilising a particularly volatile area of the capital, Bangui, a role which was undertook with pride. This was achieved by deploying a gendarmerie-type Integrated Police Unit (IPU) comprising 100 personnel. The aim was to reinforce the rule of law, maintain public order and fight impunity. Furthermore, two Police Headquarters (PHQ) members were deployed to the EUFOR RCA Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in Larissa, Greece, to participate in the mission planning process.
EUFOR RCA was a military Bridging Operation, contributing to the provision of a Safe and Secure Environment (SASE), with a handover to MINUSCA (Mission des NU en RCA/UN mission in CAR) within 9 months from Full Operational Capability, in accordance with the mandate set out in the UNSCR 2181 and concentrating its actions in the Bangui area.
The whole EUROGENDFOR Permanent Headquarters (PHQ) focused their efforts on the mission from its very establishment, including the secondment of two PHQ Officers to the EUFOR RCA Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in Larissa (Greece) to participate in the EUFOR RCA mission planning process. In addition, two EUROGENDFOR Gendarmerie Advisors were detached to the EUFOR RCA OHQ in Larissa, and more than one hundred EUROGENDFOR Police Officers were deployed in Bangui, comprising public order, community policing platoons, criminal investigation as well as intelligence cells, all of whom actively contributed to create a Safe and Secure Environment (SASE) in the endangered capital.
The operation was concluded successfully accomplishing all its tasks, creating a SASE in the Area of Operation on 15 March 2015. Its conclusion gave way to EUMAM RCA Mission.
