EUFOR Althea (2018-ongoing)

EUFOR Althea BiH

From 06/11/2018 to ongoing

The European Union Force (EUFOR) Operation ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is an EU-led military operation launched on 2 December 2004. EUFOR assumed responsibility for maintaining a Safe and Secure Environment (SASE) in BiH from the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR).

Following the NATO decision to hand over its own peacekeeping mission, which had maintained security in the region since the war ended, the EU launched military Operation ALTHEA in BiH in December 2004. The EU deployed a robust military force (EUFOR) to ensure continued compliance with the Dayton/Paris Agreement, as well as to contribute to a safe and secure environment in the country.

From November 2007 to October 2010, EUROGENDFOR was responsible for manning the Integrated Police Unit (IPU) Force HQ and coordinating other national contributions within the EUROGENDFOR-led IPU framework.

This was the first operational commitment for EUROGENDFOR since its creation.
