25th April: A Day of Freedom and Democracy:
Portugal marks the 51st Anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, a transformative event that brought democracy and freedom to the Nation. As the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR), we join in commemorating this pivotal moment in history, not only for Portugal but for Europe as a whole.
The courage and determination displayed by the Portuguese people during this revolution inspired many and paved the way for a more peaceful and prosperous Europe. As we reflect on the significance of the Carnation Revolution, we also recognise the vital role played by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) in preserving democracy, ensuring security, and maintaining public order in Portugal.
As a founding member of EUROGENDFOR, the GNR continues to exemplify unwavering commitment to the values of democracy, justice, and security—both within Portugal and in its international missions. Their dedication remains a cornerstone in ensuring the safety and freedom that we enjoy today.
