
On December 12, 1991, the Parliament approved and the President of the Republic of Moldova signed the Law No. 806-XII of the Carabineers Troops (Internal Troops) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This date became the day of the formation of the Carabineers Troops of the Independent State – the Republic of Moldova.
Evolving with society, the carabineers has become one of the pillars on which the young democratic state was built, being with the citizens in the most difficult times. The carabineers provided the much-needed support to defend independence, to liquidate the consequences of natural disasters.
Today, the General Inspectorate of Carabineers, with a legal framework and a specific structure, adjusted to meet the new challenges of modern society, presents itself as a guarantor of the rule of law. As a military component of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this institution remains fully committed to carrying out missions in the field of public order and security of institutional security and protection, as well as to preventing and combating terrorism.
The General Inspectorate of Carabineers, has specialised subdivisions for the performance of duties, both at the regional and national levels. The coordination of the activity of the Regional Departments ,,NORTH’’, ,,CENTER’’ and SOUTH’’ is carried out by the General Command assisted by the subordinate subdivisions.
The respond promptly to crisis situations within the inspectorate activates the Special Destination Battalion ,,Scorpion’’, which is a subdivision of intervention, with special training of tactical level, psychological, equipped with modern equipment, with specific skills to fight crime and terrorism.
Employed exclusively on a contract basis, the CARABINEERS staff benefits from a complex training program, combined with taking over good practices from similar structures in other countries of the world. The exercises ensured the acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve a quality public service for the community.
The General Inspectorate of Carabineers continues to be fully committed to supporting the Government’s reform agenda to deepen strategic and operational partnerships in the implementation of institutional development projects for the direct benefit of citizens.
The General Inspectorate of Carabineers is a key player in the national system of law enforcement, able to ensure the management and implementation of complex tasks in an interoperable and dual system, as well as to execute effectively support missions or even partner with other law enforcement agencies in the country and abroad, to respond to hybrid threats and increase resilience.
In 2023, Moldova, with its Trupele de Carabinieri, was granted observer status within EUROGENDFOR.
