By no means a newly born relationship, the cooperation between EUROGENDFOR and the United Nations was launched in February 2010, when the CIMIN agreed on an EGF deployment to Haiti, as a response to the UN Security Council request to reinforce MINUSTAH after the devastating earthquake that shook the country in January that year.
Following this rewarding engagement, a further milestone towards consolidating collaboration was set last June, when Mr TITOV, Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), invited the CIMIN Presidency and a delegation from EUROGENDFOR to visit the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The purpose of the gathering was to outline a framework for future EGF contributions to UN doctrinal development, planning and operational deployment.
The visit took place in late August, successfully endorsing the interest of the DPKO in EUROGENDFOR expertise, and paving the paths to develop a framework whereby the EGF may provide, when so required, key specific capabilities to United Nations Missions. Furthermore, an agenda of cross training and awareness activities is to be implemented in the next months.
